You know what - I have two girls - I am fasting since the time when my first one was born. Lots of my relatives (being they are in USA ) objetced too - but its your belive and wish and that's the reason I always followed this fast. I am doing it for my girls. I feel very nice - doesn' matter God hasn't blessed us with a boy - still we are blessed with two beutiful jewels. I think fasting is wish - no matter its for boy or girl.

I have a 3 year old daughter n i wasnt keeping this fast till this year when one of my friend suggested why not keep as son or daughter..for a mother they r equally important.I m not keeping the nirjal vrat .I have taken fruits n tea.I have followed all the rituals of the pooja and i m feeling very very good.

As God does not come over the earth to take care of the souls he has sent on the earth he delegates his powers to the parents who rear thier kids in the best possible way and to do anything for the well being of our children is not only our most precious desire but a duty as well as ordered by God.

I never this fast was for boys...according to the story..My mom always did this for her 3 kids 2 girls and a boy and all kids got the sweets and money afterwards...so I am following a tradition my Mom gave me ...I do it for my Daughter and my son,they both are precious to me .

Even i believe that the fast should be kept for the children n not for a boy or a girl. I have a daughter and i keep the fast for her. Even the Ahoi mata story which i have says that the fast should be kept by a mother for her children.

I'm so happy to see that everyone is advocating the fast to be for daughters. i have two daughters and i fast one day a year for their long and happy lives, on this day itself. of course, our festivals are naturally very traditional, and fasting for sons is also a very old thing. today if we keep this fast we should do it for all children, sons and daughters, and not just for sons.

True,this fast should be observed for children and not only for sons.i dont follow karwa chauth as i dont think me staying hungry for a day can add to my husband's longetivity.And the same case in case of my kid.he will get what he is destined to and i will always teach him to make his own destiny through determination and hardwork.this is not to hurt the feelings of those who follow this culture.i cannot fast due to medical complications but its fun to do such things as a part of culture.i just offer prayers and beleive in being a person good at heart.thats enough for pleasing god.

When I was in Japan , there was a celebration that occured for children to pay respects to their mothers and I wondered ...... Why not fathers too? I didnot know about this celebration and I am not from north India . My son is my only son and only child and I guess that he is the one who can make me proud . I will do this every year hence forth. I encourage all women of the faith and beli to do it notjust for your sons but for your daughters too. What happened to the woman's seven sons in the story could also have happend to seven girls ..... I guess its in the ancient old Indian Vibe that sons are better than daughters ..... bt those perspectives are changing . As we advocate gender equity ..... these are just some of the small things that you may do?

Why is the fast only observed for sons? It should be a fast observed by mothers for the well being of her children...regardless of their gender.
