Top 5 Nutritious and Tasty Paratha Recipes for Kids


Vegetable parathas are one of the nutritious and healthy snacking options for kids. Let us take a look at the top 5 nutritious paratha recipes for kids right away.

Paratha is a delicious Indian food that is loved by the people at all ages. It makes a heavy meal and you can stay full for quite some time. Kids love this when you pack this in their lunch boxes. Here are some recipes given which you can try at home and your kids will love it. Have a look at the following.

1. Aloo Paratha

This is the most common of all parathas and a hot favourite to the North Indians. Potatoes keep you full for hours and a huge source of carbohydrates. Here is the ingredients and recipe given how to make aloo paratha.
For this you need, Potatoes, wheat flour, oil, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, salt, oil and water. Now, in a mixing bowl, mix the wheat flour with salt and add water to it slowly, mix it well and make dough out of it. The dough should not be too tight or too loose and it should be non sticky. Allow to stay like it for some time until you prepare the stuffing.
For the stuffing you need to boil the potatoes until they become soft. Then mash the boiled potatoes and add the cumin powder or you may use ajwain for the taste, salt and turmeric powder. Now splatter the mashed potatoes in the pan with little oil and stir it. Then make small balls of the mashed potatoes and put on the dough. Now seal the dough with the mashed potatoes inside and roll into thin parathas. Then put a little oil in a frying pan and roast the parathas until its outer layers are cooked properly like chapati. Serve it after applying a little ghee on the parathas. It tastes the best with any kinds of pickle, raitas or even ketchups.

2. Palak (Spinach) Paratha

Spinach is very nutritious and is beneficial for eyes. Here is the method given how to prepare delicious spinach parathas. The things that are needed are spinach, garam masala, turmeric powder, coriander leaves, salt, water, cumin, wheat flour, green chilli and oil.
First in a pan heat oil and put cumin and green chillies and allow it to crack. Then add the spinach green and stir it well till it shrinks in volume. Then make a fine paste out of the spinach greens, add garam masala for the flavour. Then mix the spinach paste with the wheat flour and add salt, then by adding water little by little knead the mixture into soft dough. Then make small balls out of the dough and roll it into thin parathas.
Roast the paratha until it turns brown serve it hot with dal or raita. Kids will love it and it makes a delicious as well as nutritious food.

3. Carrot Peas Paratha

This also makes a delicious food. To prepare this you need, carrots cleanly washed, green peas, wheat flour, onion finely chopped, ginger garlic paste, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder, coriander leaves, salt, oil and water.
Grate the carrot and boil the peas until soft. In a pan heat the oil and add the cumin seeds, chopped onions and the ginger garlic paste and sauté it a little. Now add the grated carrots and stir it until it becomes soft. Then add the boiled peas into it and add salt, turmeric powder, garam masala and again stir it. Now mash the whole mixture into a fine paste, adding coriander leaves with it for the flavour. Add the paste to the wheat flour and make dough. Then make small balls out of the dough and roll it into fine thin parathas. Drizzle little oil in a pan and cook both sides of the paratha. Serve it hot with raita, pickle or ketchup.

4. Oats Paratha

If your kid does not want to eat oats then make them parathas out of the oats. For this you need oats, wheat flour, coriander leaves, red chilli powder, oil and water. First you have to grind the oats into fine powder. Then add the oats powder with the wheat flour and adding oil to it mix it well. Now add coriander leaves and salt. Adding water little by little start kneading the mixture until it forms pliable dough. Make small balls out of the dough and roll into parathas. Drizzle oil in pan and cook both sides of the parathas. Serve it hot with curry or any pickle.

5. Broccoli Paratha

For this you need fresh broccoli with green florets, wheat flour, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt, oil and water. Knead the wheat flour, with a little salt and required amount of water and make chapatti dough. Then separate the florets of broccoli and soak it in warm water for ten minutes, add little salt also. Then grate the green florets and keep it aside.
Heat a pan with oil and put the grated broccoli, with all the spices and sauté it until the raw smell goes away. Then with the dough make small balls and flatten it. At the centre of each dough ball put the stuffing of the broccoli and gather the sides and seal each ball. Now carefully roll the ball but make sure the stuffing does not ooze out. Finally rub oil in a pan and cook the parathas on both sides and serve it with curd.

To add more taste to these parathas grated cheese or paneer can be added to them.

We can also make cabbage and beetroot parathas for kids. They taste yummy, add a little onion and coriander to add taste to it.
