Q: I am 32 years old. I have been married for ten years. I have been trying to get pregnant since my marriage, but without success. I have undergone all the treatments from Clomophine to the four cycles of IUI and one attempt of IVF. I had one tubal pregnancy in one of the IUI cycles, which was terminated by methotextrate. My periods are irregular. They vary from 30 to 60 days. Clomophine didn’t work for me. My fallopian tubes are in good shape, and there is no blockage. My husband’s sperm count and motility are good. We are both desperate for a child. Please help us. Are there any medicines to regularize periods?
A: You will have to show all your reports to an infertility specialist who can then decide the right treatment for you. Q: What is the line of treatment for a patient with distal end tubal block (fimbrial end)? History of first F.T.N.D. and h/o one D/C done six years ago. No other gynaecological problems.
A: 1. Tubal surgery 2. IVF. Tubal surgery can be either microsurgery or laparoscopic surgery. However, pregnancy rates with these are usually poor. The reason is that while surgery can open the tubes, these tubes are often damaged (which is why they got blocked in the first place!) Surgery cannot repair this damage, so the tubes still do not work, even after the surgery. This is why IVF (in-vitro fertilisation, test tube baby) is a better treatment option.
