I was interested in the comments from other mums who have older daughters who wear plastic pants with or without diapers. Both my 13 yr old and 10 yr old daughters have plastic pants in their underware drawer.Plastic pants are worn on outings and are worn over a pad or diaper when out for special occasions or on long journeys and on holiday.

hi,my 16 year old daughter tina was a junior bride in a cousins wedding recently.she is the type that gets nervous and excited easily.i bought 4 packages of the dundee cloth diapers and sewed 2 packages each together to make 2 thick cloth diapers.i put one diaper ond plastic pants on her when she was dressed and kept the other diaper in her diaper bag.she wet during the ceremony and i had to change her right after.she wet again during the reception so i had to take her to the nursery and put a toddler huggies and toddler rubberpants on her for the rest of the time.i miss under estimated the number of cloth diapers.she now has the two diapers and the plastic pants in her drewer.

I am 17 and i still wet myself due to medical conditions. I think what these people from india are saying about potty training infants is bull. Alot of kids who are introduced to other kids who wear diapers at their own age will think that they are missing out on something. It happened with my little brothers. Now they are 10 and spending their own allowance on pull ups. Then there is the opposite side which i am on. This is where your child cant learn to hold it for medical reasons. You'll end up stressed.

hi,i am responding to the moms of the teen daughters who wear diapers and rubberpants and for first communion.my 2 girls are 12 and 14 and are very girly.they each have three pairs of plastic pants that they wear for special occasions.they dont wear adiaper under them.they were both in a wedding recently and wore their ruffled plastic pants under their white dresses.i too have heard of girls wearing diapers and rubber pants for first communion.my three cousins wore them last may under their dresses and looked very cute.

hi bably, iam 15 and have to wear nappies 24/7 which i carnt help it, as i suffer from bowl and bladder disorder,I no he's 11, and not potty trained, which you must think, what!!dont worry, its nothing to be ashamed off, it takes people different stages. Ive been nappied since a baby and iam not toilet trained. My mum says iam not a baby, but need to be nappied like a baby, as i carnt control my movements, and it stops embaraasement, and will eventually mayby grow out of it. I think you should do the same, and be very understanding and careing and not make it an issue, and suggest he goes back into nappies, justed till hes ready, it does help, and i dont feel like a baby or a freak, iam justed not ready yet. good luck.i ope ive helped, i thought i was the only one, but theres thousands out there in the same position, thats what my nurse told me.

ok, some of you people really need help. First of all babies, infants don't need to be potty trained. I worked with pre-kindergarteners and let me say there is an appropriate time for children to learn to be potty trained, at the approximate age of 3 years or 4 years. Some people are 11, 14, even 18? and still wear diapers or whatever you choose to call them, that's absurd! advise to parents who are trying to get their child potty trained, there are lots of ways to try to motivate your child to be ready to, but it's a process, it's not going to happen overnight, and I think people need to realize that sometimes kids just might not be ready like if they are 2 or 3. I do however think, there are better more positive books or research out there then on this poor website, that frankly is a little frightning.

Why train a child to eliminate into a diaper only to have to retrain them to use the toliet. Whatever happened to teaching the infant where to eliminate? Very young infants can and do communicate to adults that they need to eliminate, by ignoring them and teaching them to use their clothing as a toliet we are making a lot more work for ourselves as parents, and creating more stress for the child. Not to mention the amount of physical refuse created by disposable diapers and the money spent on them. More info is in Laurie Boecke's Book, "Infant Potty Training" the concept (very ancient)is now being called, "elimination communication."

I purchased a potty that makes a musical sound when my daughter goes potty. When I first tried to train my daughter to go potty in the regular toilet instead of the little portable potty, she screamed like crazy. I would rub her back and I would reassure her that it was ok to go to the bathroom in the big toilet like the "big people". I would bring one of her favorite story books into the bathroom. I placed a large towel to cover her legs and I let her hold her story book. I would tell her to read (even though she couldn't read yet) and, of course, I read to her as well. I also brought into the bathroom a magazine that sells toys to keep her entertained. She was so entertained reading and talking that she didn't even realize that she was having a bowel movement. It was the most effective way of getting her to potty train. It took many many months of training but now she finally tells me that she has to go and the funny part is that she'll always ask me for magazines and her Dora the Explorer story book to take along to the bathroom!! There is no right age for toilet training. Each of my children trained at very different ages. My oldest learned at 3 1/2, my middle child at 4 1/2 and my youngest child at 3. I did not stress them at all. I didn't listen to any parents because alot of parents always try to make it a big thing that their child trained at 2 years of age. I don't care about those things. I feel that a person whether it's a child or an adult, when they're good and ready to do something they will do it. Some people learn fast and others learn it at a slower pace. No one is perfect. I'm not into competition and pushing my child to do something when I know that they are not capable of doing it. What is the hurry with some of these parents? A child will go appropriately to the bathroom when they are ready. Just rest assured that your child will not be potty training at the age of 18 years of age. So don't worrry!!! A parent also should pay attention to a child's bowel movement to make sure that there are no health issues involved. There are also bowel movement diseases that parents might not be aware of that is causing the child not to be able to go to the bathroom. So a parent should pay attention. There's a disease called Celiac disease that causes bowel movement problems. Sometimes there are problems with calcium or there is a thyroid problem. There is a wonderful website that can answer alot of questions that many of you may have. There is a doctor called Dr. Mercola in the U.S. His website is called www.mercola.com. It is very informative. Good luck with your children. When they get older you can retell them all the tough times you had when you tried to potty train them and they will laugh at all the stories.

I believe in a strict toilet training - that way there are fewer accidents. As soon as my daughter could sit up she was put on the potty after every feed and praised if she performed. As she got older after each meal time her nappy was removed leaving the plastic pants round her ankles and was made to sit on potty trying to poo. My daughter is 21 months old and she has been using pottie for 11 months now. I started making her use a pottie when she started sitting properly,at the age of 7 months. I noticed she wet her nappied in about every 40min n went to 2 early morning n evening. So i used to make het sit on the pottie at those times. Newborn babies will signal (cry, wiggle, ect) when they need to go potty. If you hold them over a potty instead of using a diaper they will not become dependant on a diaper. I am doing this with my baby. We Americans learned this from India!

I have heard from many sources that it is better to start late than early. Better that your child should understand what they're doing, what you want of them, and have good muscle control before you start, than you should traumatise them and cause the whole issue to be a battle. They won't still be wearing nappies age 5. Just relax and they'll do it when they're ready.

My 3 year old wears panties most of the time except when she has to do a big job. She brings a diaper makes me put it on for her and refuses to use the Potty. we have tried everything we can... scaring her, cajoling her... nothing works. Once she is done she will say "tomorrow I will go only in the potty". I have babysat children as old as 4 years who were still wearing diapers. Not all children are alike so be patient and don't force them. With my nephews and neices i always put diapers on them for the night even if they were daytime toilet trained, that way there was never any accidents throughout the night. I recommend double diapers if your using cloth and make sure you put on rubber pants over top.

My daugther goes peepee in the potty no problem but she refuses to poop. She is wearing underware now and she will tell you when she needs to pee but when it comes to poop she waits until she is done (in her pants!) before letting you know.
